Graettinger-Terril Community School Board of Directors Regular Board Meeting May 16, 2011 All votes are unanimous unless otherwise noted. The Graettinger-Terril Community School Board met on May 16, 2011 in the Board Room in Terril at 5:00pm with President Norris calling the meeting to order at 5:03pm. Other members in attendance included Roger Schmitt, Galen Chicoine, Kevin Jensen, Duane Hoffman. Jim Eldridge and Larry Flaharty were absent. Administration in attendance were: Principal Ulrich, Superintendent Collins and Secretary Chapman. Guest(s) included: Gary Edwards, Cody Alesch, Todd Hough Jeri Nissen was on hand from the Graettinger Times and Terril Connection to photograph the board. Schmitt moved to adopt the agenda. Motion carried. SPOTLIGHT Mr. Pedersen discussed the instrumental music program. Hoffman moved to approve the minutes from April 18, April 20, May 4, May 5 and May 10. Motion carried. Chicoine moved to approve the bills and claims. Motion carried. Schmitt moved to approve the financial reports. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Item 9.1 Building Improvements & Updates Edwards informed the board of a change order that needed to be addressed. Due to the condition of some walls, firring out of the walls and adding sheetrock needed to be added. Option 1 without insulation was $4150 and Option #2 with insulation was $8450. Jensen moved to approve the change order with Option #2 at a cost of $8450. A water heater in Terril has gone down. There is currently no hot water for the shower rooms or remodeled portion under construction. Edwards is still investigating a replacement. Playground fencing in Graettinger needs replacing. Moved by Schmitt to replace the fencing. Motion carried. Discussion was held regarding the future of a weight/wrestling building. Alesch and Hough exited at 6:15. Edwards exited at 6:27. Item 9.2 Iowa Core Curriculum & 9.3 1:1 Computer Initiative Iowa Core Curriculum-nothing new at this time. Another meeting will be held at the end of the month. 1:1 Computers: Plans are being established for turning in computers for the summer to clean and reimage them. Shared Sports Hearings were held in Ruthven and Graettinger about sharing basketball. Hoffman moved to approve the basketball sharing agreement with Ruthven-Ayrshire for the 2011-2012 year pending Ruthven-Ayrshire’s vote and working out the details of the agreement. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS 101. Activity Calendar Hoffman moved to approve the activity calendar so that dues and fees may be timely paid. Motion carried. 10.2 Settlement Chicoine moved to approve a tentative agreement with a total package increase of 3.44% contingent on legislation (current figures are based on 0% allowable growth). Motion carried. 10.3 Open Enrollment Chicoine moved to approve 3 students open enrollment applications for the current year for good cause. Motion carried. 10.4 Iowa Lakes Schmitt moved to approve the jointly sponsored programs between Iowa Lakes Community College and Graettinger-Terril CSD for FY12. Motion carried. 10.5 PAK Empowerment Hoffman moved to approve a contract with PAK Empowerment for our preschool. Motion carried. 10.6 Operational Sharing and Teacher Sharing Agreements Schmitt moved to approve operational sharing agreements with Spirit Lake for Director of Finance and Director of Human Resources and teacher sharing agreement for Art. Operational sharing agreements with Armstrong-Ringsted were also approved on a motion by Schmitt for Director of Transportation and Superintendent Motion carried. PERSONNEL Hoffman moved to approve Lucas Hough as JH Baseball Coach for $1788 and John Fulton as the HS Social Studies instructor at BA Step 0 and will be placed on the salary schedule when it is finalized. Amyann Jolley-special education aide, Jeff Sansgaard-HS Social Studies Instructor and Ayn Thoreson-Spanish instructor have resigned as well. Hoffman moved to approve all resignations. Motion carried. POLICIES Chicoine moved to approve the 2nd reading of policies 601.1 School Calendar. Motion carried. PRINCIPALS Ulrich will be meeting with support staff about assignments, etc for FY12. Administration has been having weekly updates with the elementary. We have a successful graduation last Sunday. Golf and track have been going well with sharing with Ruthven –Ayrshire. Softball and baseball have begun. SUPERINTENDENT Nothing further. Adjourn 7:13pm
