There is now external WiFi access at both Terril and Graettinger for students with school devices. In Terril, the best place to sit, would be around the flagpole or front of the building. In Graettinger, it would be outside the current main doors on the north side. Again, this is not an "Open" access. It requires a GT school device.

This might not pertain to all of you, as some of you are not attending ILCC next year, however, if you have questions about requesting transcripts or maybe even classes that you might want to take there in the future, it could be very helpful for you to sit in on! During my first two weeks of 3-5th grade SEL classroom lessons, I introduced myself and reviewed my role as the school counselor. I also explained we would be learning about mindfulness in the coming weeks. I showed the students a simple mindful exercise they can use called "Take 5". We discussed how it can be used to help calm down and relax if you're mad or sad because that's when people sometimes make poor choices. We also discussed using it at night when their little minds are running a mile a minute but they are supposed to be calming down and going to sleep. http://blissfulkids.com/mindfulness-for-children-take-five-exercise/ This Take 5 Breathing Exercise is a wonderful way to switch off the stress response. It brings the body back into balance, slowing and deepening the breath and slowing down the heart rate, while harnessing the need to move with an action that requires focus and provides sensory feedback to our brains. Best of all, Take 5 Breathing is simple, enjoyable, free, and you can use it anywhere, anytime. What is Take 5 Breathing? During take 5 breathing, children concentrate on taking five slow breaths in through their nose and out through their mouths. Children may need to practice this first as they may be mouth breathing. If you notice that your child finds breathing through their nose a challenge, invite them to imagine they are smelling a beautiful flower or their favourite food as they breathe in, and then to breathe out with a big sigh. (Breathing in and smelling a beautiful smell and breathing out with a sigh because it smelt so good.) I hope the kiddos will "take 5" whenever they feel it will help, and remember this isn't just for kids- it's beneficial for adults as well!

The American FFA Degree is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization, and earned by fewer than 1% of members. Cole has shown extreme dedication to his local chapter and state FFA association, helping to continuously inspire members all across our state, and even Nation. Cole’s FFA career has been nothing short of inspiring. Thank you, Cole for representing our chapter across our country, and reminding all of us exactly why we do what we do. Your passion for educating youth about agriculture, leadership, and personal growth opportunities is absolutely contagious. Cole will travel with the chapter to accept his award at the 92nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 2nd.

GTRA FFA Chapter President, Carter Koenck, and Chapter Reporter, Mara Koenck recently served as as mentors for the Bacon Buddies program. Carter and Mara had the opportunity to work along side a student with special needs, preparing her for the Bacon Buddies show. The Bacon Buddies program gives students with disabilities an opportunity to work with show pigs in a capacity that would not otherwise be possible. Students learn about hogs, the industry, and how to show. The students, along side their buddies then show their pigs in a show at the Iowa State Fair. Carter and Mara both enjoyed the experience and can not wait to participate again next year. Carter said, “This is the coolest thing I have ever been involved in, and I can not wait for upcoming years”. Thank you, Carter and Mara for representing our chapter and community in such a positive way! DarenSuzy Koenck Caryn Caye Robinson
